ColourQ Challenge #222 & Cardabilities #90

Hey Everyone

I’ve been asked to make a couple of cards for one of my friends at work – one being a card for her sisters 30th birthday.  The cards aren’t needed until I go back to work on 29th January, but I thought I would make a start on them.  I looked around for some inspiration and found the colour challenge at colourQ and the sketch challenge at Cardabilities would work perfectly for her sisters card.

The cardstock I’ve used is from a Stampin’ Up! pack called Modern Medley DSP as well as some retired Brushed Gold cardstock.  I love the balloons from Stampin’ Up!s Up, Up & Away as they’re great to make a big bunch of birthday balloons.  The numbers come from a set called Memorable Moments. I’ve heat embossed the balloons and numbers in black and gold to make them shiny. I’ve also added some curled white craft wire to the balloons to add some extra interest.  You may be wondering where the Going Gray is, but I managed to sneak it in by stamping Gorgeous Grunge in the background.  To finish the card off, I’ve added a big black satiny bow.

Just Add Ink #173

Hey Everyone

Christine Blain suggested this weeks theme at Just Add Ink.  Our challenge for you is to:

Just Add…….Water

Some of my more observant (way more observant than me!) JAI Design Team members noticed that the bottles of water in the apartments where we stayed for our recent Stampin’ Up! South Pacific Convention had the following label on their bottles.

JAI173pic

Did you see the words under the photo of the pool?  Just Add Water!  This bottle was made for us!

So when I think of water, I automatically think of a boat stamp. Not very original, but I had a purpose in mind for my project.  My Dad had a birthday last week, and in addition to giving him some cash, I covered and decorated him a block of white chocolate.  My dad LOVES white chocolate and I’m pretty sure I give him a block every birthday, but I know it will be eaten.  This chocolate cover was made to match the birthday card I made my Dad – click here if you’d like to check it out.

Just Add Ink #147

Hey Everyone

Trish is this weeks hostess at Just Add Ink – she’s given us the challenge to:

Just Add……Balloons

I decided to get out of my comfort zone and try some sponging on my card to create a scene for my masculine card and the hot air balloons.  I tried some different layering to my card (you know I love layers!) but ended up going quite simple because the main panel with my scene was enough.

Just Add Ink #133

Hey Everyone

Nikki has come up with this weeks challenge at Just Add Ink.  Our challenge is to create a project using Mustard and Metallics.  It’s not my week for my design team duties but I decided to play along to test myself with a colour that I don’t often use.  I’ve chosen to make a baby card using More Mustard as I think it’s a neutral kind of colour that can be used for a boy or girl. My favourite baby set at the moment is a retired Stampin’ Up! set called Bundle of Joy.  I’ve lightly coloured the giraffe and teddy using a blender pen and ink and fussy cut them out.  I raised them up to add dimension to my card and finished it off with brads, a balloon and Very Vanilla satin ribbon.

Here’s my card:

I hope you can join us this week at Just Add Ink – head over to the challenge and check out the fabulous cards the girls have created.

Dynamic Duos #9

Hey Everyone

My card tonight is my second entry into this weeks Dynamic Duos challenge and it’s my second baby card for this challenge – unusual for me to make one baby card, let alone two!  One of my friends at work is having her first baby so I was asked to make a card for her last day on Thursday. I was more than happy to make a card for Erin and her husband as she’s the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet.

In case you were wondering about the size of this one, it’s a big one – we have a lot of staff in our Emergency Department so I needed a big card to get everyone’s congratulatory (is that a word?) comments on there.  Just need to find an envelope to fit it in now……..

Thanks for taking a look.

The Paper Players Challenge #95 – Colour Challenge

Hey Everyone

It’s Mothers Day today – so for you all mums, I hope you’ve had a relaxing day whilst everyone spoils you rotten.  I’ve just spent 4 hours at my sons football game freezing my toes off! It rained, it was windy and it was majorly cold.  I’m one of those mums that stands out in those shocking conditions with my umbrella cheering the team on – I can’t sit in the car with the windscreen wipers going constantly on and off!  Anyway at the end of the game all the boys are passed cupcakes to hand to their mums for Mothers Day – so at least I came away with a yummy cupcake – oh, and they had a win!

At The Paper Players this week Ann has given us the challenge of creating our cards using the  following colours:

Colour challenges are great for me as they take me waaaay out of my comfort zone of using neutrals.  Because I needed a little help with these challenging colours, I’ve combined challenges and am using the sketch from Mojo Monday this week.

Here’s my card:

The girls have created some beautiful cards with these colours s0 head over to The Paper Players and check them out.  Thanks for stopping by.

21st Birthday Card

Hey Everyone

I’m going to surprise you all with another post tonight and this time unbelievably it’s not for a challenge!  Shocking, I know.  It’s been ages since I’ve posted anything other than a card for a challenge.

My niece is turning 21 (don’t know where those years have gone!) so I’ve made her a card that hopefully matches the theme colours from her party – Black & Pink.

Here’s my card:

I’ve used Melon Mambo and Basic Black for her card – which is a slightly brighter combo than I would normally use! So I’ve gone with lots of layering, the balloons from Up, Up & Away and I found some white wire that I’ve curled and tied into the bow – along with a key, of course.  I’ve also added some bling because I know she loves everything bright and sparkly. Hope she likes it!

Thanks for stopping by.

Create with Connie & Mary #197 & Freshly Made Sketches #30

Hey Everyone

I’m back after a two week holiday from a little fishing town called Eden which is on the South Coast of New South Wales.  Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter – we had a wonderful holiday and probably ate to much chocolate! I managed to squeeze in two crates of my Stampin’ Up! supplies so I could craft on my hols. There was only so much I could take away with me and guaranteed I had all the wrong colours when it came to the challenges I entered over the last couple of weeks, so I practically walked into my craft room yesterday and kissed my desk! I was desperately in need of all my matching cardstock, ink, ribbons and stamp sets.

The card I made yesterday (but only had a chance to photograph today) is for two challenges – Create with Connie & Mary and Freshly Made Sketches.

I’ve gone with something other than a feminine card (shocking, I know) but I wanted to add a kids card to my collection. Here’s my card:

Thanks for taking a look.

Create with Connie & Mary Challenge #192

Hey Everyone

It’s a long weekend here in Melbourne and I’m heading off to my nephew’s 4th birthday party soon, so as usual I left my card making until the last minute!  As soon as I saw the sketch at Create with Connie & Mary this week I knew it was going to be a great sketch for my nephew’s card.  We’re all putting in and buying him one of those train set tables that has the wooden Thomas the Tank sets on it and I figured what better stamp set to use than Choo Choo.

Here’s the sketch:

Here’s my card (you’re probably thinking where’s the layers I normally pile on? – today I was going for a CAS style). I’ve also flipped the sketch to fit in my sentiment and train.

Thanks for stopping by.

Products used:
Cardstock: Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla,
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Baja Breeze, Sweet Slumber DSP (retired)
Stamp Sets: Choo-Choo (retired), Happiest Birthday Wishes, Up Up  & Away
Other Products: Button, Hemp Twine, Circle Scissor

Create with Connie & Mary #188

Hey Everyone

This is the sketch from this weeks challenge at Create with Connie & Mary challenge.  Click here to take you to their challenge and join in the fun.

I dragged out an old favourite stamp set – Sense of Time – for my card.  I used the flourish from a retired set called Bliss to stamp on the clock and tag in Crumb Cake.  I also added a jumbo grommet to the seam binding (not sure if you can see it) for no other reason than it was sitting there!  Anyway, here’s my card:
