Just Add Ink #237

Hey Everyone

I think I may actually be losing my memory!  I totally forgot to publish this post on Friday night.  Looks like I might have to start putting dates in my calendar so I don’t forget again. My excuse is that I’ve been super busy at work and sit down at night and nothing else registers.

This weeks challenge at Just Add Ink is to:

Just Add Clear Block Stamping

I’m not going to lie – I struggled.  I tried new inks, old inks, markers directly to the clear block and also a bit of heat embossing.  After binning heaps of cardstock, I finally came up with this.  I used my old style Crumb Cake ink to create this background that I think I kept re-inking and stamped over 6 times.  I then finger-walked Dictionary over bits of the background.  I’m going to have to try this technique again at some stage so I can get a bit more practice.

Come and join us this week at Just Add Ink.  Head over to the challenge and check out the gorgeous and varied inspiration from the design team.

Cardabilities #100 & Inspired by Stamping Inspiration Challenge #82

Hey Everyone

My mum had a birthday on the weekend so to get me inspired to create her card I used the layout from the sketch at Cardabilities and combined it with the colour challenge at Inspired by Stamping.  Here are their inspiration pics:

The flap at the top of the sketch gave me the idea to create a pocket so I could stash some money in there as part of her present (just in case she wanted to buy some Stampin’ Up! products!). The flowers I’ve used are from Everything Eleanor and the leaves are from Summer Silhouettes.  I’ve added a bit of washi from Stampin’ Up!s Tape It and the sentiment is from Express Yourself.  The honeycomb background is something I learnt how to create at convention.  Something I’ve never done before is ink up an embossing folder and used it as a stamp.  I love this effect so I know I’ll be doing it again.

Viva La Verve Sketch Challenge

Hey Everyone

The card I’m sharing is a card I made for my Mum for Mother’s Day – as Mother’s Day was yesterday in Australia, it’s now safe to post my card.  Cards are getting so hard to make for my Mum these days as she’s a card maker too and I want to try and impress her.  She sent me a text last week to ask if I’d made her card yet and as she sees all of my posts, I couldn’t try and fob off an old one on her – oh, and she also said there was no pressure at all!  (I knew she was just kidding, but I still put pressure on myself!) Because I needed a little help I’ve used the layout from this weeks great Viva La Verve Sketch.

VLVMay2sketch

I’ve moved my flowers a tad from the sketch, but they’re there and I’ve also moved my bow  a little to the left as that was where it worked best for my card.  I was really pleased with my card and I was also pleased to know that she loved it.

Stampin’ Royalty #203 & The Deconstructed Sketch #128

Hey Everyone

Do you ever make a card that comes together really easy and that you feel really happy about?  This happened to me with this card.  Although my photo doesn’t really show the brightness of the Coastal Cabana DSP – it looks prettier in real life.

SR203 & DS128

The colours for my card where from taken from this weeks inspiration picture at Stampin’ Royalty.  I’m so in love with this colour combo!  I dug up some retired Stampin’ Up! DSP called Spice Cake and teamed it with some current Stampin’ Up! DSP called Aftrnoon Picnic.  The fabulous layout for my card came from this weeks sketch over at The Deconstructed Sketch.  Here are their inspiration pics:

Pals Paper Arts #176 & The Shabby Tea Room Challenge #188

Hey Everyone

The card I’m sharing today is for two challenges – the Sketch Challenge at Pals Paper Arts and the Fall Themed Challenge at The Shabby Tea Room.

I love playing along with the challenges at Pals Paper Arts, especially when Margaret has created one of her fabulous sketches.

PPA176sketch

In addition to the Fall Themed Challenge, the Design Team at The Shabby Tea Room have given us the challenge of adding pumpkins and a stamped sentiment.  I don’t have any pumpkin stamps as we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia, so I decided to make some pumpkins out of oval punches.  I’ve seen lots of these on pinterest so the idea for them wasn’t mine – I did however make Very Vanilla ones daubed with Sahara Sand instead of orange ones.  As I don’t have anyone to give my card to, I would normally shy away from challenges like these, but I wanted to challenge myself and give it a go.

The papers I’ve used are retired Stampin’ Up! ones that I had lying around on my desk and hidden away in my drawers – Bella Rose DSP, Kiwi Kiss DSP and Spice Cake DSP.  Here’s my card:

Mojo Monday #315 & The Paper Players Challenge #167

Hey Everyone

The card I’m sharing with you today is for two challenges – Mojo Monday and The Paper Players.  I don’t normally get a chance to create during the week, but I had a little bit of time last night to sit down and have a play.  Sometimes cards just come together really easy and last night was one of those times.  I have to say I was really happy with how this card turned out.  Here’s the inspiration pics for the challenges:

I’ve used some retired Stampin’ Up! DSPs on my card – Spice Cake DSP and Comfort Cafe DSP.  The stamp sets I’ve used are Hearts A Flutter and the sentiment is from Express Yourself.

Freshly Made Sketches #85

Hey Everyone

Guess who’s the sketch hostess at Freshly Made Sketches this week? Me!  You would think that when I made this sketch a few weeks ago, I would’ve had a plan in mind for my card – as usual I left it until the last minute and had to rush my card through.

FMS85sketch

I’ve dragged out some retired Stampin’ Up! designer series paper (again) for my card – Spice Cake DSP.  I initially thought I had enough of the DSP from this pack that had Pool Party as the main colour, but found I only had small pieces left.  I settled for this Early Espresso DSP instead.

We would love for you to join us at Freshly Made Sketches, so head over to the challenge and link up a card.  While you’re there check out the gorgeous inspiration from the Design Team.  I can’t wait to see what you do with my sketch!

Hey Everyone

The card I’m sharing today is combined for two challenges – Mojo Monday and Create with Connie & Mary.

I think I’ve forgotten about Pool Party somewhere along the line and I seem to have run out of all my Pool Party DSP except for this retired piece from Spice Cake DSP. Here’s my card:

Just Add Ink #146

Hey Everyone

I’m back!  At Just Add Ink this week Kim has given us the challenge of creating a project using Pool Party, Chocolate Chip, Crumb Cake and Pretty In Pink.

I was really unsure how to make these colours work on my card – so I found myself overlaying to try and fit them all in!  Here’s my card:

We’d love for you to join us this week. Head over to Just Add Ink and link up your projects! While you’re there, check out the gorgeous cards the Design Team have created.

Dynamic Duos #26 & The Sweet Stop Sketch #182

Happy Sunday Everyone

There’s a monochromatic colour challenge over at Dynamic Duos this week.  I love monochromatic tones but I paused when I saw it was So Saffron and More Mustard – probably not the monochromatic colours I had in mind!  I guess that’s why challenges are good for me – to test me with colours outside of my comfort zone.

I’ve based my card on this weeks Sweet Stop Sketch Challenge. I’ve deviated a little from their sketch by moving my bow to the bottom of the card and my sentiment sideways a bit. Here’s their fabulous sketch:

Here’s my card:
