Freshly Made Sketches #189

Hey Everyone

It’s my turn to host this weeks sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  I’ve gone for layered shapes for my design – sorry Jen B, it has a circle on it!

FMS189sketch

I’ve been thinking I am well overdue for a man card. So for my card I’ve used Stampin’ Up!s Open Sea and paired it with a sentiment from Petite Pairs.

Just Add Ink #248

Hey Everyone

It’s time for a colour challenge at Just Add Ink.  Take a look at the colour combo we have for you:

JAI248pic

I think I’m working out how to combine more than two colours a little more comfortably these days.  I find the best way for me is to start with a white background and then play with the colours until I manage to fit them all in.  One of the things I realised after helping my mum recently with her market is that I don’t have a huge supply of masculine cards.  I create the occasional one here and there but I need to make more of an effort to get her a supply of them.  If only I could repeat a card…. I could create 5 of the same card and have about 5 different designs for her.  It would make sense to do this while I have all the products out, but for some reason I just don’t do it.

The Card Concept #12

Hey Everyone

You’re going to love this weeks challenge at The Card Concept – our challenge for you to is create a card with a Nautical Theme.

CC12pic

I really enjoyed making my card for this challenge and tried to put as many nautical embellishments as possible.  I love the whitewash boards that you see in a lot of beachy houses in the movies so I tried to re-create some of them.  Stampin’ Up!s Hardwood stamp worked perfectly for these.  I also made a life buoy as sort of a picture frame and stamped the boat from Stampin’ Up!s Open Sea to have framed behind it.  I added an anchor as well that I took from the inspiration picture and finished off my card off a vintagey brad.

Freshly Made Sketches #133

Hey Everyone

Wednesday’s come around sooooo quickly! Before we know it, we’ll be preparing for Christmas again!  Cindy Lovell is our sketch hostess at Freshly Made Sketches this week – here’s the fabulous sketch she’s created:

FMS133sketch

It was time for me to make another man card and Cindy’s sketch ended up being perfect for me to use my retired Stampin’ Up! set called Sail Away.  I’ve also used some stamps from Open Sea to complete the whole nautical scene.

Freshly Made Sketches #127

Hey Everyone

I saw Jennifer Timko’s really cool sketch at Freshly Made Sketches this week and instantly thought – man card time.  I figured I was due to make another one and give you a break from my floral creations.

FMS127sketch

This card took me forever to make because I so focused on using an off-cut piece of blue designer series paper from a retired Stampin’ Up pack called Comfort Cafe DSP.  I had a nautical themed card in mind that I thought would work because of the rippled pattern on it that reminded me of water.  After an hour of playing around with shells and boats, I decided to give up that idea and go with a guitar themed card instead.   I added some chevrons from my new chevron border punch to pair with the chevron DSP I used in the background.  The guitar and sentiment are from a retired Stampin’ Up set called Grunge Rock.

Freshly Made Sketches #117

Hey Everyone

This is our last challenge for 2013 at Freshly Made Sketches.  Can you believe that Christmas is only one week away?  I’m starting to think that one week won’t be enough time for me to be ready for Christmas.

The amazingly talented Amy O’Neill is this weeks sketch hostess – here’s her great sketch:

FMS117sketch

I decided to go with a man card as it’s been a while since I’ve made one.  I dragged out an oldie but a goodie Stampin’ Up! stamp set call Open Sea.  I tried to keep this card clean and simple, well as clean and simple as I can get!

FMS117

Head over to Freshly Made Sketches and take a look at the gorgeous inspiration from the Clean Team.  While you’re there, why don’t you join us in the last sketch for 2013?  We’ll be back on 8th January with some fabulous sketches!

Thanks for stopping by.

Merry Monday Challenge #47 & Stampin’ Royalty #160

Hey Everyone

We have a fun challenge for you for this weeks Merry Monday Challenge

It’s Tic, Tac, Toe Time

MMC47pic

I’ve gone diagonal from the first tile, so that gives me – Blue, Colour with Markers and Ribbon.

I used the baubles from Merry & Type and coloured them in with my Baja Breeze and Midnight Muse Markers. The designer series paper I’ve used on the base of my card is a retired Stampin’ Up! one called Ski Slope. I’ve combined this with some current Midnight Muse designer series paper.  For the background on my main panel I stamped the log words from Open Sea in Baja Breeze for a different look.

I’m also entering my card into this weeks Stampin’ Royalty Challenge where their challenge is to use Polka Dots. You’ve gotta love Polka Dots! I think they work perfectly for a Christmas card.

Here’s my card:

We’d love for you to join us so head over to Lesley’s blog and join in the fun. While you’re there, check out the gorgeous inspiration from the Merry Makers or click on their names below.

Pals Paper Arts #147 & Inspired by Stamping Inspiration Challenge #35

Hey Everyone’s

Hope you’re all having a wonderful day.  It’s Saturday here in Australia and it looks like it’s going to be a cloudy weekend in Melbourne and then the sun will come out on Monday – isn’t that always the way?!

Pals Paper Arts sketch Queen, Margaret, has given us this fabulous sketch to create our cards:

I’ve combining this sketch with the challenge over at Inspired by Stamping. Their colours for this week are pink, gold & white.  Here’s their inspiration pic:

I probably don’t “do” a lot of pink cards, but I actually like these colours together.  The cardstock I’ve used is from a Stampin’ Up! DSP pack called Fan Fair.  As Stampin’ Up! don’t have pink seam binding, I made my own.  Normally I would drop a couple of drops of my desired re-inker colour into hot water and throw some Very Vanilla seam binding in, but as I don’t have any pink re-inkers, I dragged my seam binding over the ink pad to give it colour.  It’s probably not the exact colour I was going for, but I’m happy with it. Here’s my card:

Inspired by Stampin Inspiration Challenge #16

Hey Everyone

It’s school holidays here in Melbourne so I’ve had a bit of time to browse around and find a new challenge to me – Inspired by Stampin Inspiration Challenge.  As you know I’m addicted to challenges and after checking out the beautiful shabby cards the design team have made, I thought I’d give it a go too!

Here’s their sketch this week:

Here’s my card:

Freshly Made Sketches #27

Hey Everyone

It’s that time where I make myself create another “man card”.  I’ve been pushing myself so I could have some in my stash and also because I make too many feminine cards. They’re coming to me a bit easier now that I’ve got into the swing of things.  I still miss the tizzying up when I make a  “man card”, so I have to think of extra things to use instead, e.g. twine, jumbo eyelets etc.

Lesley’s sketch at Freshly Made Sketches this week gave me the opportunity to use Open Sea (again).

Here’s what I came up with:

Thanks for stopping by.  Click here to take you to the challenge and check out what the other Design Team members have created.  If you have time, join in the fun.
