Just Add Ink #207

Hey Everyone

We have a sketch for you at Just Add Ink this week.  Kim is our hostess and she’s designed this wonderful sketch.

JAI207sketch

I was looking around my room the other day for my missing circle scissor cutting blade and came across some lace, vintage buttons and some Rose Red seam binding together in a pack.  I couldn’t quite remember what the name of this pack was but I really love the lace and decided it would be the starting point on my card.  I don’t have any doilies so I thought the lace would work just as well.   In case you’re wondering, I still can’t find my blade 😦

We’d love for you to join us this week at Just Add Ink.  Head over to the challenge and link up a project – while you’re there check out the fabulous inspiration from the Design Team.

Mojo Monday Challenge #336 & colourQ Challenge #232

Hey Everyone

I made this card for the sketch challenge at Mojo Monday (I’ve just now realised the challenge has closed, but I was an issue last night with migrating my old macbook pro to my new one and I couldn’t access it for 15 hours!  I guess it’s a case of better late than never!) and the fabulous colour challenge at colourQ.

Love, love, love this colour combo!  I’ve used some old Stampin’ Up! DSPs – Urban Oasis DSP and First Edition DSP and the stamp sets I’ve used are Pleasant Poppies, Kindness Matters and my sentiment is from Happy Watercolour.

Inspired by Stamping WHW#125 & The Shabby Tea Room #195

Hey Everyone

This weeks tutorial at Inspired by Stamping is how to create a flower using burlap.  Joanna has created a lovely flower and has given instructions on how she made it – you should check it out.

I’ve combined this challenge with the Terrific Tag Challenge at The Shabby Tea Room . This week their is to create a tag using the inspiration picture below – I took inspiration from the wrapped presents:

STR195pic

To create the roses I rolled the burlap giving it a twist every now and then.  I kind of remember making flowers like this in primary school – I might’ve been a paper-crafter even back then and didn’t even know it!

Retro Sketches #80 & Stampin’ Royalty #192

Hey Everyone

I’ve had a busy weekend with my niece’s baby shower yesterday and an Under 18s Football Grand Final this morning – our club lost 😦 – so I haven’t had much of a chance to play in my craft room.  I did however get a chance to make one card for this weeks Retro Sketch Challenge and the theme challenge at Stampin’ Royalty where the challenge is to make a project using patterned paper.

RS80sketch

I know I’ve said this before, but I find man cards not as easy to make as female cards because I can’t tizz them up with bows, bling and flowers.   I thought the sketch at Retro Sketches would be perfect for a man card with all it’s banners and layers.  I’ve used some washi tape for the first time on my card and as I found my stapler, I was able to staple the ribbon around the grommet just for a different look.  Here’s my card:

Merry Monday July Challenge – Anything Goes & The Paper Players #153

Hey Everyone

It’s week two of Lesley’s month long Anything Goes Christmas Card Challenge at Merry Monday.

MMCJuly13pic

The Design Team at The Paper Players have a Christmas in July theme challenge, so I’m entering my card into their challenge too!

PPC153pic

The designer series paper I’ve used is a retired Stampin’ Up! one called Candlelight Christmas Specialty DSP.  No matter many Christmas cards I make, I never seem to be getting to the bottom of my Christmas DSP pile.

We’d love to see your Christmas card creations, so why don’t you head over to Lesley’s blog and link up a card.  While you’re there you can check out the gorgeous cards the Merry Makers have created or you can click on their names below:

Mojo Monday Challenge #300 & The Paper Players Challenge #152

Hey Everyone

Mojo Monday is having their 300th sketch challenge.  Julee’s sketch is one that I related to straight away as it suited my over-layered card style.

Mojo300Sketch

I don’t get to play along with the challenges at The Paper Players as often as I used too. But as I had a day off work today I was able to create a card to enter into their challenge before it closes.  The very talented LeAnne has a given us a Tic-Tac-Toe challenge this week.  I’ve gone with Birthday, Yellow and Ribbon.

PPC152pic

I was never a yellow fan until Summer Starfruit came along and now find it an easy colour to work with.  I’ve used some of my new Stampin’ Up! designer series paper called Soho Subway and some retired DSP called First Edition.  I’ve teamed them with a new Stampin’ Up! colour called Smoky Slate – a colour that I found I love combined with Summer Starfruit.  Here’s my card:

Create with Connie & Mary Challenge #239

Hey Everyone

Can you believe it’s Thursday again? I have an extra day to my weekend this week, so I’m going to catch up on some cardmaking as well as prepare for a card class I have on Sunday.  I always manage to leave my cutting until the last minute, even though I promise myself each time I will prepare in advance.

This weeks challenge at Create with Connie & Mary is a sketch challenge.  Give me a sketch challenge over a colour challenge any day!

CCMC239sketch

So it was only after I made my card did I read the word “greeting” down in the left corner – how could I miss it?  Well I did and then it was too late to add one.  So my card is a little different from the sketch – I’m using a bit of creative licence again!

My card was made around a dyed seam binding bow I had sitting on my desk that had been discarded from another project.  It’s been sitting there for over a week now and I was determined to use it up.  When I dyed it, I was unhappy with the tie-dyed effect that I created. I must’ve squished it too hard when I was running it under water so my Midnight Muse Ink kind of ran out of it.  The project I was originally going to use it on was a clean project, so this messy Midnight Muse bow didn’t work on it. I like it much better on my vintage messy card.  Here’s what I came up with:

Mojo Monday #279 & Just Add Ink #152

Hey Everyone

I’ve been a bit busy this weekend so I haven’t had much of a chance to get into my craft room.  After catching up on some design team duties, I finally got a chance to enter this weeks Mojo Monday sketch challenge.

Mojo279Sketch

I’m not a big user of hearts on my cards so I wussed out entering a card with the Just Add Ink design team when our challenge went up on Friday, but it got the better of me and I decided to give our hearts challenge a go.

Here’s my card:

Create with Connie & Mary Challenge #237

Hey Everyone

The sketch from Create with Connie & Mary this week is a fabulous one.  When I first saw it, I was a little unsure what I would do with the rectangles and in the end I decided to go vintage.

CCMC237sketch

I really do love Artistic Etchings but don’t use it enough these days. I started with the Eiffel Tower and the rest fell into place. Of course I had to add a scrunchy seam binding bow, but this ribbon IS the best for tying bows!  The flower I’ve used is from our upcoming Stampin’ Up! Seasonal Catalogue – it’s called Vanilla Flower Trim. You can either keep it joined together or you can cut it off individually like I’ve done.
