Just Add Ink #321

Hey Everyone

It’s Friday so that means a new challenge at Just Add Ink.  This week our challenge has been suggested by Patrice.  Our challenge for you is to

Just Add Paper Piecing

I’ve gone with a two-toned butterfly on my card with some distressed edges and general grunginess/dirtying up of my background.

A Card for My Mum

Hey Everyone

It was Mother’s Day a couple of weekends ago and as usual I stressed over making a card for my mum. My mum loves Stampin’ Up! as much as I do and I know she’d be happy with anything I gave her, but I always spend a little more time when creating her cards – just so she can see I put that little bit of extra love into them.  She loves my over-layered, tattered vintage-y cards, so this is what I made for her. You can’t get more worn than this mum!

Just Add Ink #292

Hey Everyone

Christmas is coming too quickly!  Hope you’re all prepared – I think the only thing I’m on track with is my Christmas cards. This weeks Just Add Ink challenge is one that will inspire you to add to your Christmas card stash.  Here’s the inspiration pic:

JAI292pic

How pretty are those trees?  I stamped my trees from Stampin’ Up!s Peaceful Pines and the sentiment is from a retired Stampin’ Up! set called Many Merry Messages.  The colours I’ve used are Coastal Cabana, Whisper White and Silver.  Whenever I’m in doubt for a design for a card – I layer.

Here’s what I came up with:

Pals Paper Arts #270 & Cardabilities #132

Hey Everyone

The card I made today is for two challenges – Pals Paper Arts & the final challenge at Cardabilities.  Here are their inspiration pics:

I really like the colours at Pals Paper Arts for a Christmas card and dragged out a retired Stampin’ Up! set called Watercolour Winter. I love the holly from this set and applied my markers directly to the stamp to ink it up.  As always I used Gorgeous Grunge to the background and then added some Sahara Sand candy dots to finish it off.  Here’s my card:

The Card Concept #34

Hey Everyone

I’m back with a second post tonight. This time I’ve created a card for the new challenge at The Card Concept.  Here’s the inspiration pic:

I really love the colours in the picture and tried to match them. I’ve used Blushing Bride and Coastal Cabana.  To achieve my striped tag I inked the inside of my striped embossing folder and ran it through the big shot. I finger walked Dictionary in Blushing Bride over the background and inked up the flowers from Stippled Blossoms.  To finish off my card I used a sentiment from Petite Pairs.

The Card Concept #32

Hey Everyone

When I first saw the colours for this weeks Card Concept challenge, I wondered how I was going to make them work for a Shabby Chic card – but once I found the right DSP my card just fell together. Love it when that happens!

Mojo Monday #383 & Pals Paper Arts #238

Hey Everyone

Just a quick one tonight before I head off to bed.  My card is combined for this weeks sketch challenge at Mojo Monday and the colour challenge at Pals Paper Arts.

I’m not much of a heart user, mainly because I don’t have any heart dies as yet.  My hearts are hand cut, except for the stamped one from a retired Stampin’ Up! set called I Heart Hearts.  I must remember to put the heart dies from Stampin’ Up! on my next order.

Mojo Monday #382 & MFT Challenge #14

Hey Everyone

I’ve never managed to play along with Mojo Monday’s Tall & Skinny Challenge – until now.  I’ve combined their sketch challenge with the colour challenge at MFT Challenge.  Here’s their inspiration pics:

First I’m going to have a debrief.

I’ll be the first to say I don’t take criticism in life very well and have never had to with my card making.  I had, what I would consider, a negative comment left for me on Sunday and I actually felt a bit put out about it all day.  The comment was about how all of my cards look the same and how I repeat the worn and torn edges in all of my cards. Worn and torn edges are repeated by a lot of card makers who create in the same style as myself.  I’m not an expert on styles but I consider this to be along the lines of shabby chic/vintage.  I also think I try and add different details to each card so they don’t look the same. One of the designs teams I’m on requires a clean card and I think I achieve this style too (the DT must think so as I’m still on their DT after 14 months!).  I think I can be versatile when required and if you take a look back at my blog you will see I try to mix it up between styles.  Anyway, do I not have the right to make MY cards how I want?   I’ve been struggling to create probably from last year when I fractured my elbow.  This changed about a week ago and I was actually wanting to go out to my craft room again.  Then I got this anonymous comment. >:-(  If you don’t like my cards, and feel I repeat the worn and torn look, then don’t follow my blog.  Simple.

Sorry for the long whinge, but it was better than my first reply that consisted of 2 words – it started with an F and ended with a U!

I really do appreciate and love all the positive comments I get – so I guess this one just threw me.

Now on to my card, which you will see, is a clean card with no “worn and torn edges”.

Stampin’ Royalty #263 & Cardabilities #115

Hey Everyone

I dragged myself away from watching the tennis to create a couple of cards today.  The first one is for two challenges – Stampin’ Royalty colour challenge and the Cardabilities sketch challenge.

SR263pic

Cardbilities115

I had a bit more time than usual today to play around with techniques.  I’m the first to say that I’m technique challenged as I really don’t get time watch videos or search the internet to find them.  I wanted to create a kind of watercoloured background. I started by taking Hello Honey & Sahara Sand Inks and randomly stamped the pads directly to a non-stick craft mat.  I then spritzed the ink with water and then placed my Whisper White card stock directly onto the ink.  This is the effect I achieved after I dried it off with my heat tool. I inked up Stampin’ Up!s Dictionary and finger walked it so that it only stamped on certain bits of the background. I’m pretty happy with the effect!
