The Card Concept #36

Hey Everyone

I really love challenges as they make me try different colour combos that I would never usually try.  Take a look at the fab inspiration pic we have for you at The Card Concept.

CC36pic

I tried a new-to-me technique – the emboss resist technique.  I heat embossed Stampin’ Up!s En Francais with Clear Embossing Powder.  I then sponged Slate Gray and Morning Meadow ink in patches and then wiped away the excess with a paper towel.  I then set about fussy cutting (gee did they take time!) the fern fronds and flower from Butterfly Basics.  Here’s my card:

Hey Everyone

It’s time for another challenge at The Card Concept. We have a wonderful inspiration picture and theme for you to create your cards:

So many colours and my initial thought was “how do I combine that many bright colours for a shabby chic card?”  Flowers seemed the best way to go – here’s what I came up with:

Just Add Ink #171

Hey Everyone

Mae has given us this great sketch at Just Add Ink this week:

JAI171sketch

I’ve been hanging to use my new Stampin’ Up! goodies, so that’s what I did! The designer series papers I’ve used is called Soho Subway DSP and I’ve combined this with Baked Brown Sugar cardstock – a 2013-2014 Stampin’ Up! In Colour.  I’ve stamped En Francais with Baked Brown Sugar ink as I think the script matches the font of my sentiment from Blooming with Kindness.  Here’s my card:

Just Add Ink Challenge #164

Hey Everyone

Who loves a sketch challenge? Me!  Mae Collins, Just Add Ink’s sketch Queen, has given us one of my favourite sketches so far:

JAI164_Sketch

I’ve gone quite a bit vintage with my card this week.  I was initially thinking I would create a Mother’s Day card, but in the end I think the embellishments I added suited a Wedding card more. I never seem to photograph these colours really well but in real life the colours are more pronounced and my sentiment is clearer. I’m really happy with this card and am glad I have another Wedding card to add to my stash.

Freshly Made Sketches #77

Hey Everyone

Jennifer is this weeks hostess at Freshly Made Sketches. She’s designed this fabulous and very versatile sketch for us to create our cards:

FMS77sketch

My card was created around the frame from Papaya Collage that I had sitting on my desk. I’d stamped it and put it aside from another project and was determined to make it work on another card before I ruined it with another spilt coffee.  I had to flip the base of my card to fit the frame – gee, only my second week on the Design Team and I’m already straying from the sketch! The colours and DSP I’ve used were itching to be distressed and daubed, but I held back.

The Paper Players #127 & Mojo Monday #275

Hey Everyone

Love is in the Air over at The Paper Players where romance and Valentine’s Day are the theme for this weeks challenge.  I’ve gone with a vintagey card that I thought could be used as a Valentine’s Day card or an Anniversary card.  I’ve used this weeks Mojo Monday sketch (gee I love this one Julee!) for the layout of my card.

Affection Collection is a stamp set that is always sitting on my desk lately so I’ve used the sentiment and flashy background stamp (don’t even know what you would call this stamp).  To match the Pink Pirouette in my designer series papers, I dyed some Very Vanilla Seam Binding with Pink Pirouette ink and scrunched it up to get the ruffled effect. I then added some punched hearts, scrunched up the corner of my card to reveal some retired Newsprint DSP and my card was done. Here’s what I came up with:

Just Add Ink #146

Hey Everyone

I’m back!  At Just Add Ink this week Kim has given us the challenge of creating a project using Pool Party, Chocolate Chip, Crumb Cake and Pretty In Pink.

I was really unsure how to make these colours work on my card – so I found myself overlaying to try and fit them all in!  Here’s my card:

Mojo Monday #264 & Just Add Ink #141

Hey Everyone

I’m combining challenges for my card tonight.  I love the sketch Teresa has designed at Mojo Monday this week and Kathy has given us this gorgeous colour combination over at Just Add Ink.  I really wanted to get myself into gear and enter my card with the design team when it went live this morning, but I got busy and it just didn’t happen. So now I’m playing along just for fun.

Dynamic Duos #19

Hey Everyone

It’s Sunday evening here so that means it’s time for my Sunday evening posts from my weekend of creating.  The colours at Dynamic Duos this week are colours that I haven’t used very often and I would have to say they’re colours I struggle with.

I’ve stamped the three leaves from my all-time favourite Stampin’ Up! stamp set – French Foliage.  I’ve fussy cut them out and dirtied them all up to hopefully resemble real leaves. Here’s my card:

Thanks for stopping by.

Ink: Always Artichoke, Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze

Just Add Ink #132

Hey Everyone

Mae has provided us with this great sketch for our challenge at Just Add Ink this week.  I had so many ideas running through my head when I saw this one – I was going with a man card, then a boy card and ended up with a kind of shabby chic feminine card. This sketch is so versatile that it could be used for any card type really.

Here’s Mae’s sketch:

Here’s my card:

I’ve gone with Basic Gray, Very Vanilla and Beau Chateau DSP for my card.  Instead of daubing with Crumb Cake as I normally do, I lightly daubed with Basic Gray.  I had the bow already tied in my ribbon off-cuts box so I gave it a bit of a squish in my hand to get it from the flat position and to give it some body again.  I wanted just the outline of the Apothecary Art stamp as border for my framelit so I used my marker to highlight the area I wanted stamped.

I hope you can join us at Just Add Ink this week – head over to the challenge and check out the beautiful cards the DT have created.
